Awareness Day Report for People of Determination and Learning Difficulties

The Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Sciences, in collaboration with the Student Affairs, the Counseling and Happiness Center, and the Psychology Club, organized an awareness day dedicated to people of determination and learning difficulties. The event was held on Thursday, November 14th, at the University of Science and Technology in Fujairah.
Event Objective
The main objective of the awareness day was to raise awareness and understanding about learning difficulties and the challenges faced by people of determination. It also aimed to provide a comprehensive and accurate overview of the psychological and educational methods used to assess and diagnose individuals with learning difficulties, as well as to highlight the importance of supporting people of determination in various educational and social environments.
Event Program
The event featured two main workshops as follows:
Assessment and Diagnosis of Learning Difficulties from a Psycho-Educational Perspective
Presented by: Mr. Wissam Al-Kilani, Sharjah Learning Difficulties Center.
The workshop covered assessment and diagnosis methods for learning difficulties, highlighting the tools used in this field and how to apply them to support students with special needs.
My Inspiration: A Kindergarten that Changed My Life
Presented by: Dr. Fidaa Diab.
This workshop addressed an inspiring story about the role of kindergarten in bringing about significant changes in the lives of children with learning difficulties, highlighting successful and inspiring experiences.
Learning Difficulties Simulation Lab
An interactive simulation lab for learning difficulties was also organized, giving participants the opportunity to experience firsthand the challenges faced by individuals with learning difficulties. This lab helped enhance participants' understanding of the daily challenges faced by these individuals and contributed to raising awareness of the importance of providing a supportive and inclusive environment.
Attendance from Outside the University
The event witnessed notable attendance from outside the university, with many specialists and interested individuals from various educational and community institutions, as well as parents and students from different academic levels. This attendance provided an opportunity to strengthen communication between the university and the external community, and to deepen the understanding of the importance of supporting people of determination and those with learning difficulties.
Outcomes and Recommendations
The event resulted in increased community awareness of the importance of supporting people of determination and those with learning difficulties. Participants came up with several recommendations, including:
Enhancing training programs for teachers on how to deal with learning difficulties.
Increasing communication between parents and educational institutions to provide necessary support for children.
Activating initiatives aimed at providing an appropriate educational environment for people of determination.
Conclusion
The awareness day for people of determination and learning difficulties was an opportunity to highlight challenges and successes, as well as to emphasize the importance of solidarity and community support in creating an inclusive environment that provides equal opportunities for everyone to learn and grow
