UAE and Folklore Symposium Highlights Rich Cultural Heritage at University of Science and Technology of Fujairah

The Deanship of Student Affairs at the University of Science and Technology of Fujairah (USTF) organized a cultural seminar titled "The UAE and Folk Heritage," presented by Dr. Saeed Al Haddad, a distinguished researcher specializing in Emirati heritage. The event took place in the university's conference hall.

The seminar aimed to shed light on the UAE's rich folk heritage as a reflective mirror of the nation's deep-rooted history, emphasizing the importance of preserving this invaluable legacy and passing it on to future generations.

During the session, Dr. Al Haddad explored various facets of Emirati folk traditions, starting with the authentic customs and values such as generosity, hospitality, and etiquette in social gatherings. He further highlighted national celebrations, traditional attire, and the pivotal role of proverbs and folk tales in shaping the UAE's cultural identity.

Dr. Al Haddad also delved into the traditional crafts and industries that were prominent in the UAE's past, such as palm weaving, mat-making, embroidery, pottery, and the essential pearl diving profession that formed a cornerstone of ancestral livelihoods.

He did not overlook the diverse array of folk arts and chants, including sword dances, the traditional Yola dance, and sea chants, underscoring their significant role in national celebrations and heritage festivals.

Concluding the seminar, Dr. Al Haddad emphasized the essential role of festivals, museums, and cultural institutions in documenting and promoting folk heritage to younger generations. He praised the UAE's ongoing efforts to preserve its national identity through various cultural and educational initiatives.

The event witnessed enthusiastic engagement from faculty members and students, enriched by insightful discussions on the importance of folk heritage in fostering national identity and reinforcing cultural belonging.
