World Mental Health Day 2024

Theme: Positive Work Environment and Sustainable Well-being

Under the theme "Positive Work Environment and Sustainable Well-being", the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Sciences, in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs, organized a celebration for World Mental Health Day. The event aimed to highlight the importance of mental health and raise public awareness of related issues, with a focus on the role of the work environment in achieving sustainable mental well-being. The celebration saw wide participation from government and academic institutions and featured a rich program of lectures, artistic, and literary presentations. The ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Aisha Khamis Al Dhanhani, a member of the Federal National Council, who praised the efforts made, the students’ distinguished work, and their role in promoting community awareness of the importance of mental health.
Event Program:
1.    National Anthem: The event opened with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, expressing pride and belonging to the nation.
2.    Holy Quran Recitation: A spiritual start to the event, with a beautiful recitation of the Quran, enhancing the positive and spiritual atmosphere.
3.    Welcome Speech: The host welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of the event in raising awareness about mental health issues.
4.    Film Presentation titled "Mental Health Issues in the UAE": This presentation highlighted the major mental health challenges in the country and the efforts being made to address them.
5.    Speech by the University President: Professor Dr. Ali Abu Al-Nour, the University President, spoke about the importance of mental health in societal development and the need to support efforts aimed at improving mental care.
6.    "Psychological Impact of Human Trafficking Victims and Provided Services": A lecture by Dr. Hawa Youssef Al-Raisi from the Ministry of Interior discussed the psychological effects on victims of human trafficking and the available services to assist them.
7.    Musical Interlude: A calming musical performance on the oud by artist Ma'ruf Sonober added an atmosphere of serenity and reflection to the event.
8.    Technopsychology: A presentation that addressed the psychological impact of modern technology usage on mental health.
9.    Film Presentation titled "You Are Not Alone": A short film aimed at sending a message of support to those suffering from mental disorders, assuring them that they are not alone in facing challenges.
10.    Psychological Reflections: A literary segment featuring reflections on significant psychological experiences, enhancing the attendees' understanding of the importance of expressing emotions.
11.    Film Presentation: Psychology Is Life: A film showcasing the importance of psychology in the lives of individuals and society.
12.    Psychology of Sustainability and Enhancing Well-being in the Work Environment: This segment discussed how to achieve psychological sustainability in work environments and improve employee well-being.
13.    Honoring the Participants: At the conclusion of the event, participants and supporting entities were honored in recognition of their efforts in making the event successful.
14.    Student Exhibitions by the "Psychology Department" and Participating Entities: An exhibition featuring artistic works and projects presented by psychology students, along with contributions from supporting institutions.
The celebration provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness about mental health, shedding light on challenges and potential solutions. Through the diverse activities and lectures, the event delivered an important message: a positive work environment and sustainable well-being are essential for achieving general mental health and the well-being of society.
