Youth for Sustainability Competition – Expo 2020

In a new achievement added to the records of the achievements of USTF students, the university team achieved first place at the country level in the Youth Competition for Sustainability, which comes as a result of joint cooperation between the University's Office of Events and both the Shell International Energy Corporation and the Emirates Injaz Corporation.
The university team was led by the student Suhair Mahmoud from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the student Salsabil Ghamry from the College of Pharmacy, in addition to students from other faculties of the university.
The students’ research journey began in September 2021 when the University’s Office of Events announced the competition and 5 teams were formed to compete in the areas of innovation and business. All teams, based on what was agreed upon between the USTF Office of Events and Injaz, received intensive weekly training at the hands of McKinsey and Co. Global Training and Development experts.
In addition to the university teams, a large number of teams from various universities participated in that research competition, which lasted for six months and culminated on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, with the university team winning first place at the country level with its research project represented in storing the excess energy coming from solar panels in a sandy medium placed in an underground insulator.
His Excellency Prof. Ali Abou El-Nour – USTF Chancellor – congratulated the members of the winning team and also praised the spirit of cooperation between the team and their efforts to integrate the various sciences they study from the various disciplines of the university, which contributed to the success of their research project.
